Day 38-41: Port Angles to Lake Crescent to Forks to Rube Beach to Anberdeen to Raymond

July 29-August 1

My camera died, so here is what happened in a bullet list:

  • Cycled with Ryan out to the coast, which is some beautiful riding and swimming in the lakes along the way
  • We battled vampires in Forks
  • We swam in the ocean near where Goonies and a bunch of other movies were made
  • We cycled down highway 101
  • We passed through Amberdeen, Kurt Cobain's hometown
  • We passed over the muddy banks of the Wishkah
  • Nick and I decided to part ways, he will be going the Pacific Coast route, I will be going inland to do the Sierra Cascades route.
  • As a parting party, we decided to get some beer in Raymond, Washington.
  • We met some cool dudes in Raymond

People we met in Raymond, Washington

We were beckoned, or you could even say corralled, into a bar by Manny, who was one of the most outgoing and gregarious people I've ever met. He was both deeply funny and philosophical. I think his nomadic lifestyle has given him a unique and valuable perspective on life. One such piece of advice was, "Don't blink!" He would say this when he wanted you to appreciate what was happening at a particular moment.

I like that.

It was also at the bar that we met Mike, a proud Norseman who was kind enough to let us spend the night at his place.

Thanks Mike!
